Which Pew? A special thanks to Toledo Missionary Baptist Church for this posting. THE CRITICAL PEW: This pew watches the minister of the church with an eagle eye. The singing is too soft or too loud. The building is always too hot or too cold. The critical pew finds everything but the blessings of God. THE IRREGULAR PEW: Sometimes the irregular pew is full, sometimes it is empty. The problem is, you never know what to expect from this pew. THE CORDIAL PEW: This pew is always radiant like the sunshine. This pew greets other pews with genuine cordiality, extends a handshake to every visitor, and listens with joy to the message. THE DO NOTHING PEW: Sure they are there on Sundays and Wednesdays, but that is as far as their service goes. They think that God will excuse their laziness. THE PRAYERFUL PEW: This pew spends a moment or two with bowed head in silent prayer on entering the church. This pew comes to worship, and brings the spirit of worship with it into the church. Which of these pews do you occupy when you come to the Lord's house for services? Ephesians 6:7,8 With good will doing service, as to the Lord, and not to men: Knowing that whatsoever good thing any man doeth, the same shall he receive of the Lord, whether he be bond or free. Colossians 3:23,24 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. 1 Corinthians 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates? Ephesians 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. |
